Susan came to Common Ground Christian Church in Fredericksburg, VA with her husband while they were trying desperately to adopt a child and hoping that some new church friends would give them some good references. They never imagined how God would not only bring them a son but give them new life as well…
Although they were looking to expand their family, they didn’t known how God would multiply that desire beyond all their wildest expectations. Their three year old son gives them constant joy, but it is being a part of Common Ground that has filled the hole in their hearts they were seeking to fill. Susan leaned up against the fence, looking over the playground where her son now played and she begged me, “Please, tell people about the great things being done here at Common Ground. Tell them my story. They need to know so that more people can find the peace we’ve found. And tell them ‘Thank You’ for what has already been done.”

Jamie had been with her partner for more than fourteen years when they decided to raise their newborn son in the church. After visiting New Venture Christian Church in Midlothian, VA, however, Jamie’s heart turned away from her life of sin and brought her into the threshold of grace…
Now Jamie, employed as the church secretary of New Venture Christian Church, has found a new family and sense of belonging in that community. “New Venture saved my life,” she spoke in a hushed voice. Her eyes looked across the room to her son, now young and strong who was helping himself down the buffet line of the potluck lunch the church held to celebrate its fifth birthday. “I don’t know what I would have done without these people.”

Curt and Jackie McSherry decided in their eighties that sitting on the sidelines of the church was not for them. When LifePointe Christian Church opened its doors to the community in Toano, VA, the McSherrys showed up to help unload tables and serve with humble hearts…
Three years later, Curt and Jackie are still an active part of LifePointe and serve as greeters on Sunday mornings. Everyone knows and loves the McSherrys – they are best known for their infectious energy and joy. They insist that age is no excuse for not being an active part of the body of Christ, and they are a living testimony to that every day of their lives.

When new Christians, Chris and Isa moved their family down from Michigan, they were intimidated at the prospect of finding a new church home. After attending New Venture a few times, they hesitantly decided to invite the minister and his wife over for dinner to talk about opportunities to become more involved. After rescheduling several times, they finally decided on December 1st. That evening, when Steve and Sharron arrived for dinner, Chris suddenly had a seizure. Steve performed CPR and called 911, helping Isa take care of all the unwonted details. The church then stepped in with constant support by bringing over meals, taking care of the kids while Isa stayed with Chris in the ICU, and continual prayer.
Isa now realizes that God was calling her back into the church so that He could provide for her family when she was no longer able to. She cannot imagine what she would have done without the people of New Venture stepping in at a time when she felt so powerless and lonely.
